Project Overview
This project aimed to strengthen sustainable livelihoods and promote ecosystem services through capacity building in apiculture (beekeeping) for newly graduated Palestinian youth in Jenin and Tubas districts. Beekeeping has long been practiced in the region and plays a critical role in agricultural productivity through pollination. The initiative sought to equip young graduates with the technical knowledge, practical skills, and entrepreneurial tools necessary to establish small-scale beekeeping enterprises, thereby contributing to income generation, environmental sustainability, and food security.

Objectives
To strengthen the technical and entrepreneurial capacities of young university graduates in sustainable apiculture practices and support them in establishing income-generating beekeeping activities that contribute to environmental sustainability and local food systems.
Key Activities
The project delivered intensive theoretical and practical training on modern beekeeping techniques, including hive management, honey production, and the production of value-added bee products such as pollen and beeswax derivatives. Participants also received mentoring sessions on business planning, marketing, and small enterprise management. Each trainee was provided with three complete beehives and essential beekeeping equipment to support the establishment of their own beekeeping operations. The program also hosted an international apiculture expert who shared technical expertise on bee health, disease management, and marketing opportunities within the sector.
Results and Impact
The project successfully trained eight young graduates and supported them in establishing small-scale beekeeping enterprises. Participants gained practical experience in sustainable honey production and value-added product development, improving their prospects for self- employment and income generation. In addition to creating livelihood opportunities, the initiative contributed to strengthening ecosystem services through improved pollination, supporting agricultural productivity and biodiversity in the targeted areas.

The project demonstrates how environmental conservation can be linked with sustainable livelihood opportunities and youth economic empowerment. By promoting apiculture as a green economic activity, the initiative contributes to strengthening rural resilience, supporting local food systems, and enhancing ecosystem services.
